{"id":459,"date":"2026-02-27T15:28:41","date_gmt":"2026-02-27T15:28:41","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/caos-gw.unipg.it\/caos-the-project\/"},"modified":"2026-05-05T20:31:58","modified_gmt":"2026-05-05T20:31:58","slug":"caos-the-project","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/caos-gw.unipg.it\/en\/","title":{"rendered":"CAOS: the project"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>CAOS stands for \u201cCenter for Gravitational Wave Applications and Seismology\u201d.<\/p>\n\n<p>From the experience gained with gravitational wave detectors, technologies are emerging that bring seismic isolation to unprecedented levels of performance.<br\/>CAOS is the research center created and made available by the Italian scientific community to develop the apparatuses of the future.<br\/>From improvements to the Virgo detector, to full-scale prototypes for the Einstein Telescope, to technological dissemination, this is the ideal testing ground for measurements at extreme sensitivity.<\/p>\n\n<p>Open to international research, partnered with the KAGRA scientific community in Japan, and dedicated to training young technologists in the field.<\/p>\n\n<p>It begins with two 15-meter Ultra-High Vacuum towers, containing Superattenuators based on Virgo technology at an increased scale, combined to form a six-meter suspended optical cavity.<br\/>Impressive?
